A perfect way to spend a day…waterfall-hopping in the beautiful Town of Caledon.

Caledon’s beautiful landscape includes secluded waterways, bridges, trials and waterfalls. Experience the ruins and mills that remain from communities long ago.

After spending a lovely day hiking be sure to refuel for lunch at Heatherlea Farm Shoppe. You just may want to bring a cooler to grab something for dinner too, as Heatherlea is GTA’s on-farm butchery and aging vault.

1. Belfountain Conservation Area Falls

A mini Niagara Falls with Suspension Bridge. This waterfall is readily seen with just a short walk into the Belfountain Conservation Area. A suspension bridge overlooks the falls and makes for a photographic entrance into the forest.  There are plenty of connected trails and country roads, whether you are here for a quick visit or hours of hiking.

This waterfall was designed to mimic the Niagara Falls by the previous owner of the property, Charles Mack in the early 1900’s. Mr. Mack made his fortune with his inventions, such as the rubber stamp which was sold to banks and post offices.

2. The Cataract Falls at the Forks of the Credit

The Cataract Falls is set in the ruins of an old mill site and offers pretty trails to soak in the natural surroundings. Travel across a large, arched metal bridge over a set of train tracks. Another bridge leads you over the credit river and small waterfalls as you make your way to the main falls.

The waterfall site has been under construction, so please check if the falls viewing sites are accessible before travelling.

3. Shaws Creek Falls at the Millcroft Inn & Spa

Enjoy the pretty views of the Shaws Creek Falls from the Millcroft Inn & Spa dining room. The mill holds loads of history from its days as a knitting mill in the 1800’s. This location is just a few minutes from our final waterfall on the list, the Alton Mill.

4. Alton Mill Dam

The Alton Mill is one of the only 2 remaining 19th century mills that were established in this small town.  The thriving pond at the mill is held back by a dam which has 2 falls spilling over the top.  The falls can easily be viewed from the bottom or from the viewing platforms above.
