Winter in Caledon is an amazing time of year! As the cold sets in and the snow starts to fall, the landscape transforms and creates a truly magical atmosphere. From outdoor activities and festivals to cozy cafes and unique shops, there are plenty of things to do in Caledon during the winter.
In this blog, I’m going to share with you 10 amazing things to do in Caledon in the winter. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or prefer to stay indoors, I’m sure you’ll find something to enjoy. So let’s get started!

Ice Skating
For those looking for an outdoor activity, ice skating is a great way to enjoy the winter season in Caledon. With various ice rinks in the area, there are plenty of places to go skating. Pack your skates and enjoy an afternoon of gliding around the ice. It’s a great way to get some exercise and have some fun!
Be sure to check locations for times and availability before heading out (and bring your skates!).

Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is a great way to explore the winter landscape of Caledon. With snow-covered trails, you can take a stroll or a more challenging hike. Most locations do not have snowshoe rentals so be prepared to bring your own (with the exception of Island Lake offering rentals).
Snowshoeing is also a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the beautiful winter scenery. With the right gear and preparation, you can explore the snow-covered trails and take in the sights and sounds of winter in Caledon.

For those looking for a more challenging outdoor activity, cross-country skiing is a great workout. You can also take a more leisurely pace to enjoy the scenery. With numerous trails in the area, you can explore the snow-covered landscape with ease.

Skiing and Snowboarding
For those looking for a more extreme winter experience, skiing and snowboarding are available in Mono at Hockley Valley Resport.
Psst…they also have a fabulous winery just south of the resort to grab a bottle of red for your dinner.

Fat Bike
If you’re looking for an invigorating winter activity, try fat biking! Fat bikes are specially designed mountain bikes that allow you to explore the terrain even when it’s covered in snow. The tires are wider with lower pressure , giving you more grip and better traction.

Winter Hiking
Caledon and nearby areas are pituresque with the winter landscapes. Stroll through to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

Tobogganing
How about heading out to a toboggan hill? Bring your sled (and ride at your own risk).
Here are a few places to go tobogganing:
Murray’s Mountain (next to Orangeville District Secondary School)
Westside Secondary School in Orangeville (a big hill next to the school)

Ice Fishing
Have you tried ice fishing? This is a fun winter activitity that you can try at Island Lake Conservation Area. They provide rentals for ice fishing rods, lures and hole auguring services.
There is even the Annual Ice Fishing Derby in February. You can also participate in the Ontario Family Fishing weekend in February (Family Day weekend) without a fishing license.

Fire & Ice Festival in Alton
The Fire and Ice Festival is an annual event in the Village of Alton in January. Hosted at the beautiful Alton Mill, the weekend is packed with pond hockey, ice skating, children’s activities, ice carving demonstrations, live music, fire sculpture, and food & drink.
