Jalapeno & Cheddar Stuffed Burger Patty

A fun twist on burger patties – try stuffing them! These patties have the delicious flavours of a Jalapeno Popper stuffed inside an Angus burger.

Ingredients

4 oz. cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup cheddar, shredded (try Thornloe Cheddar)

1/2 cup mozzarella, shredded (try Thornloe Mozzarella)

2 jalapeño peppers

1/4 tsp kosher salt, plus more to season burgers

freshly ground black pepper

6 slices bacon, cooked and chopped

1 tsp chili powder

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 1/2 angus ground beef (try our Lean Ground Beef Butcher Box)

4 burger buns

Directions

Prepare the jalapeños by washing them, slice the stems off, and then slice them in half lengthwise.  Using a spoon, remove the upper portion of ribs and seeds, while retaining some of the lower ribs and seeds for the heat.  The more seeds and ribs you keep in the jalapeño, the spicier the burgers will be. Mince the jalapeños and set aside.

Make the filling by using a medium bowl to mix together the cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, and the minced jalapeños. Season with 1/4 tsp salt and a couple pinches of freshly ground black pepper. Fold in the bacon and adjust seasonings to taste.

Using a medium bowl, add the ground beef, chili powder and fresh garlic. Mix just until combined, being careful not to overwork the mixture (which can result in a tougher patty).

Separate the beef into four 6 oz portions.  Using two deli lids to form the patties (see our Best Method for Forming Hamburger Patty), press about 3 oz of ground beef into one lid and 3 oz of ground beef into the second lid.  Spoon about ¼ cup of filling onto one side of the patty.  Take the second lid containing the ground beef and gently press over the filling to form a patty. Gently press along the edges of the burger patty to seal the patty, being careful not to press the filling out. Repeat with the remaining 3 patties.

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and oil the grates. Season the burgers on both sides with salt and pepper. Place on the grill and cook about 3-5 minutes per side, only flipping once, halfway through cooking.  Remove from the grill when the center is hot and melted and the beef is done to your liking,

Serve with buns and your favourite condiments.
